App features

• Legacy 3-column social layout, modernized — left sidebar (Top / Hot / Info / Favorites), center content, right sidebar (Favorites / Followed / Not Followed); icon-only left rail + hamburger groups menu on mobile. Since 2026-09-11 the ≥790px shell is one centered max-w-[1265px] container, Twitter/X-style, with sticky sidebars.
• Groups — four kinds (public, private, state hub, county hub) replacing the legacy Ω-prefixed geographic groups. Join / leave / favorite, member counts, group icons (photoUrl, imported via the groups:setPhotoUrls admin mutation; default-image fallback), and a brand-tinted header card distinct from post cards.
• Auto-membership — new users are auto-subscribed to every public group plus their home state / county hubs (legacy behavior, groups:ensureMembership).
• Versioned AI research reports — see next section.
• Threaded discussion — posts work as global feed items, group-wall posts, per-report-section discussion, and replies; upvotes + isSolution marking; general (unfiled) group discussion collapses under the reports.
• Members list — group detail lists members full-width below the posts/discussion (single column at every width — deliberately not a right-hand column beside the middle content).
• Resources library — category / article / link hierarchy (legacy Resource tables).
• People directory + states page — browsable members and state hubs.
• Auth — Convex Auth with email verification-code sign-in; anonymous visitors browse as the shared public account so guests see the same sidebar as redwaveplan.com legacy.
• Theming — dark-by-default with light toggle; brand tokens (--color-brand: #dc2626 red, navy accent) declared once per app in app/globals.css @theme, kept in sync with @redwave/brands.

Research reports (the heads-up card on each issue group)

Each issue group gets dated, versioned research reports. Every generation run creates a new version — nothing is overwritten — so discussion attached to earlier versions stays readable.

• Weekly cron — Convex scheduled function, Mondays 12:00 UTC (7am Central) via convex/crons.ts → reports:generateAll.
• On-demand — group admins can trigger a run from the group page (trigger: "admin").
• Sections — each report has ordered sections with a stable slug (key, e.g. mail-in-ballots) so discussion on one slice of the issue follows from report to report across versions.
• Model transparency — every report records the model that wrote it, or "digest" for the no-LLM fallback (convex/lib/researcher.ts).
• Failure safety — runs land as generating → published / failed with the error stored; failed runs never clobber the last good report.
• Tile → detail presentation — the group page shows one compact clickable tile (headline, summary, section titles with per-section comment counts); the full report text and each section's discussion live on the report's detail page (/groups/[id]/reports/[reportId]).

• Sidebars are sticky on the centered container, no longer fixed to the viewport edges — no more dead space on wide monitors.
• Group detail is single-column: header card, then reports, then general discussion, then the members list full-width below — no second column beside the middle content.
• Group header card: bg-brand-light + brand top strip + border-brand/25 so it reads as a header, not another post card.
• <790px keeps the legacy behavior: icon-only left rail, right sidebar collapses into the header hamburger menu.

Flow & deploy

Host → brand routing

1. middleware.ts rewrites / → /demhistory or /primaryplan based on the Host header (same pattern as the LinkAll8 locos); redwaveplan.com serves /.
2. vercel.json mirrors the same host rewrites at the edge.
3. Sign-in pages are chromeless; everything else renders inside the social shell.

Deploy

Plain Vercel git integration: push to main → Vercel builds with installCommand: cd ../.. && pnpm install --frozen-lockfile and buildCommand: pnpm --filter redwave-web build. No GitHub Actions matrix (unlike aroundtown) — the repo is linked to the redwave-web Vercel project.

🗂️ Roadmap

• ☐ #8 Retire the legacy ASP.NET box once redwaveplan.com is cut over.
• ☐ #9 Optional www → apex redirects; GA not wired.
• ☐ #10 notifications table exists in the schema but has no UI yet.
• ☐ #11 Verify the first Monday cron run end-to-end (report quality + digest fallback path).
• ☐ #12 Group photos: extend the groups:setPhotoUrls import so every group has a real icon (missing ones fall back to the default image).
• ☐ #13 Move redwaveplan.com DNS to Vercel — apex + www still point at the legacy ASP.NET server (208.98.35.66), so the live social app is only reachable via the demhistory.org / primarypl

Test results

2026-09-11 — icon + Twitter-style layout shipped

• 5fca9f8 — group icon in the detail-page heading (48px) and on groups-index cards (40px); typecheck + production build pass.
• df1e7bb — centered max-w-[1265px] shell, sticky sidebars, sticky members column, brand-tinted group header (Grok CLI implemented; reviewed, verified, shipped). Typecheck + build pass; live CSS probe confirmed the new shell styles are served in production.
• c41254e — group detail made single-column: members list flows full-width below the discussion instead of a right-hand column.
• 18d2e02 — report restructure: compact clickable report tile on the group page (headline + section titles + comment counts); full report and per-section discussion moved to the detail page. Typecheck + build pass; pushed and deployed.
• Election Fraud group: authored + published a real v2 report through the pipeline itself (start → publish, 7 sections incl. mail ballots, machines/audits, litigation tracker, take-action) as the format template; the empty cron digest is preserved as v1.
• Live probes: demhistory.org + primaryplan.org → HTTP 200 on Vercel (Next.js); /groups → 200. Headless-Edge screenshot of the landing rendered fully; the groups page stays on its client-side Loading… state in headless captures because Convex uses WebSockets — verified in-browser instead.
• redwaveplan.com → 302 to /Account/Login on Kestrel/ASP.NET — legacy box still owns the DNS (see roadmap).
